Santa proclaims successful Christmas Mission 2005

THE NORTH POLE -- After successfully circling the world on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus proclaimed the 2005 Christmas Mission a success.Kriss Kringle

"We have made our rounds once again and delivered gifts around the world," Claus said after stepping from his sleigh in the early hours of Christmas day. "We had some weather issues to deal with as usual, but nothing we couldn't handle. We've been doing this long enough to know what to expect each year."

With the 2005 Christmas Mission completed, sights are set on Christmas 2006. Work will slow down for now, but preparations are already under way for next Christmas season.

"We will be looking for new ways to better improve our work and help with the Christmas mission," Claus told NPNN. "We are always looking for better ways to do things and improve upon what we already do."

More than 3,300 elves work exclusively in Santa's Workshop. Others are employed as toy designers, meteorologists, security and reindeer trainers.

Reindeer to take rest after long Christmas Eve Mission

With the 2005 Christmas Eve mission complete, Santa's reindeer, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen and Rudolph are in for three months of rest and relaxation before they begin training for the 2006 Christmas Mission. After undergoing intense daily training to get in shape for the difficult Christmas Eve trip around the world, the reindeer were in the best shape ever prior to their Dec. 24 flight around the world in 2005.  The reindeer are trained by Elf Connie and her team of nine individual reindeer trainers. "I think the reindeer held up very well this year, " Elf Connie told NPNN. "These animals know what it takes to deliver the toys around the world and we prepare them through training to be ready for any conditions they might face on Christmas Eve."

Large tree lights night sky at North Pole

Christmas Square, the center of Santa's Village at the North Pole, glows with lights not only during the holiday season, but all year round.  The center of Christmas Square at the North Pole is a 100-foot tall tree which sits in the middle of the square and is covered in lights, ribbons and ornaments. All of the ornaments were made either by elves at the North Pole, or sent to Santa by children from around the world. The tree is lit each evening throughout the year and ornaments are replaced with handmade ones sent to Santa by children from around the globe. The holiday season began with the annual ceremonial lighting of the giant tree on Nov. 25. The tree features brand new lights and a new Christmas star on top.
